Toms River, NJ –It is a sunny day in May and the streets of Downtown Toms River are filled with the weekday lunch crowd. Amongst the bustle, two businessmen walk along Robbins Street in suits and ties. The seasoned veteran of the two turns the page of his Wall Street Journal to the Legal Section. His brow furrows and eyes wince to clear his sight as he stops in his tracks. His companion, a taller, light-haired man who is one step behind him, slows his pace and glances down at the Journal to discern what has caught his friend’s attention. His forehead creases with intrigue as he reads the black bolded print: “Ocean County Law Firm Wins Historical Litigation Case.” The two step in the shade of a tall white building as the older man continues to read aloud, “Carluccio, Leone, Dimon, Doyle & Sacks–” Before he is able to continue, his partner taps his shoulder and points to the building beside them, “Yes, that’s the one.”
On May 8, 2015, an expertly crafted, life-sized bronze sculpture by renowned artist J. Seward Johnson was unveiled beside the historic H. Clay Glover building (9 Robbins Street, currently home to the law offices of Carluccio, Leone, Dimon, Doyle & Sacks, LLC). The piece known as “Second Hand News” is a sculpture of two businessmen reading the Wall Street Journal, and is one of twenty sculptures being displayed on various public and private properties throughout the downtown Toms River area until the end of the summer season. Organized by the Downtown Toms River Business Improvement District, CLDDS chose to participate in the Community Art Project recognizing the unique opportunity to host an extraordinary life-size work from the famous collection, and the benefit to the community at large, as the outdoor art pieces will add vibrancy to the Downtown area and draw more people to the district during the summer season.
“When I came to CLDDS ten years ago, I recognized the firm as a Toms River fixture; in fact, our building itself will be one-hundred-years-old next year,” states Jonathan Z. Petro, Co-Managing Partner at the firm. “While our reach goes far beyond Ocean County, CLDDS is proud of our Toms River roots. Our participation in this project was one of our easiest decisions, as we have been long-time supporters of the arts in our hometown.”
The unveiling of the sculpture exhibition entitled “Celebrating the Familiar” took place at the Toms River Municipal Complex court yard, on Friday May 8, 2015 at 12:15 pm.
