“DILIGENT PREPARATION, CLEAR COMMUNICATION, SKILLED ADVOCACY, AND DOGGED DETERMINATION ARE KEY COMPONDENTS OF SUCCESFUL LITIGATION, DISPUTE RESOLUTION AND CRISIS RESPONSE.”

William Burns, an accomplished trial attorney, joined the firm in 2020. His practice focuses on all aspects of litigation, crisis management, labor and employment, and criminal law/white-collar defense. William has been described as someone who has astute situational awareness. “Mr. Burns sees and understands the whole board, which enables him to develop and implement strategies that focus on his clients’ goals.” Though William is always prepared to take a case to verdict, his client’s goals are paramount, and he works tirelessly to find creative solutions. William not only provides strategic advice and counseling but works with his clients to implement the appropriate plan and action for achieving their goals, whether in complicated civil litigation, business issues/disputes or crisis management. William has successfully represented private and public sector clients before a wide array of Federal and State Courts and federal, state and local agencies, commissions and boards.

Mr. Burns has a crisis response mindset, including the ability to think broadly in terms of worst-case scenarios while simultaneously suggesting and implementing numerous specific solutions. Crisis management is the process by which an individual, non-profit entity, or business deals with an unanticipated event that threatens to disrupt the life of the individual or organization. Typical crisis management responses include crisis identification, communication, mitigation and recovery. During the COVID-19 public health crisis and global pandemic William has counseled his clients using an event-based management approach, which includes clear communications and incorporates centralized control and decentralized execution. The goal of any crisis management, including responding to the current public health crisis, is to be well prepared to ensure a rapid and consistent response. Mr. Burns provides his clients with advice relating to all State and Federal laws, regulations and orders that have the potential to impact them as business owners, employers, family members or individuals. As requirements related to COVID-19 shift Mr. Burns regularly updates his clients on their interpretation and provides advice on compliance, including amending or implementing new policies, manuals, forms, releases, waviers, and/or contracts.

Prior to joining the firm, William served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Mercer County where he held various positions, including Chief of the Domestic Violence Unit, Chief of the Economic Crime Unit, Trial Team Member and Member of the Arson Unit. During his tenure as an Assistant Prosecutor William investigated and successfully tried numerous cases to verdict, including arson, fraud, and attempted murder. After leaving the Prosecutor’s Office, William was a shareholder with Capehart and Scatchard, LLC in Mount Laurel, New Jersey where he successfully represented public entities across Burlington County, including a bridge commission and county college. Most recently, William was a shareholder with Malamut and Associates in Cherry Hill, New Jersey where he continued and expanded his representation of public entities and school districts.

William received his undergraduate degree in political science from Gettysburg College and his law degree from the University of Richmond. William is an active member of the community serving as an EMT with the Lavallette Volunteer First Aid Squad, an Executive Vice President with the West Point Island Civic Association, and President of the Lavallette Regular Republican Club. William is also an advocate for pediatric cancer awareness and research, a member of the Coalition Against Childhood Cancer (CAC2), and one of the founders of the #SaveJosh campaign.
